Big changes are coming to Final Fantasy XIV. In an effort to "improve player experience," Square Enix will be merging their 18 current Worlds (or servers) into 10 new ones on March 27.
Players worried about choosing a new home can server hop between March 1 and March 12. Failing to choose a server gets you automatically assigned to a new one. For French and German players, Square Enix is already recommending New World 10.
This move is most likely a direct response to the game's dwindling population. Even so, Square is trying to keep the mood positive, suggesting that new Worlds "may be added in the future" if the Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 relaunch picks up momentum.
