Lasts from February 14 until game launch
Most game demos on Xbox LIVE with any amount of multiplayer still require a Gold subscription to play. Well, that won't be the case with Mass Effect 3.
Once the Mass Effect 3 demo is released on February 14, Silver LIVE members will receive temporary access to Gold status -- because Microsoft and BioWare really want you to try the new multiplayer. Here's the exact message from Microsoft:
"In celebration of ME3, Xbox is pleased to provide fans access to ME3 demo multiplayer for the time leading to launch. Xbox LIVE Gold gives you exclusive benefits including multiplayer gaming, member-only deals & previews, and access to entertainment with Netflix, ESPN, Hulu Plus and more."
This isn't just a weekend or even week-long deal, either. The temporary Gold subscription will last all the way up until launch, which for North Americans is March 6. Not a bad deal, right? So for almost an entire month, you can binge on all the multiplayer you could possibly handle for free. If you already have Gold, then... yeah, you already have Gold.

it stands loose from the idea of the free gold status itself though. fan of the series or not just slap it on the hard drive, try it out, and enjoy the online fun. you'd be crazy if you passed that oppertunity.
I would be surprised if they actually gave free Gold for that long. I remember for the Reach beta, it was only for 3 days, and all you got was access to the multiplayer beta.
The guy from Bioware (or is he just a community rep?) seems to think you get access to Gold, but it could just be based off the quote he was sent down from Microsoft.
