Game-based movies are seriously a hit or miss affair -- mostly miss -- so we won't blame Ace Attorney fans for not being unanimously excited about the new Ace Attorney movie. The supposedly high-budget film premiered recently at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in the Netherlands, and director Miike Takahashi has already confirmed plans to release the movie worldwide.
Although the movie was shown in Japanese, subtitles displayed Western character names, like "Phoenix Wright" instead of "Ryuuichi Naruhodou." Takahashi explained that each region's subbed and dubbed versions will use character names taken from the Phoenix Wright games of that region.
The Ace Attorney flick covers events from the first game -- more specifically, the first five cases of the series.
