Alan Wake launching on PC in February, system requirements set
Remedy's horror game incoming
The announcement last month Remedy's horror game Alan Wake was finally coming to PC surprised everyone. Making it even better, there's no unnecessarily long marketing campaign to sit through: the game will be launching next month via Steam. Price is to be determined.
Along with the release window we've got the tentative minimum system requirements, which are low indeed:
OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
PROCESSOR: A dual core processor is required:
- AMD: Athlon X2 2.8GHz
- Intel: Core 2 Duo 2GHz
MEMORY: 2 GB
HARD DRIVE: 8 GB
VIDEO CARD: DirectX 10 compatible or later with 512MB RAM
- AMD: ATI Radeon 3650, 4450, 5550, 6450 or higher (per series)
- NVIDIA: GeForce 8600GT, 9500GT, GT120, GT430, GT520 (per series)
SOUND CARD: DirectX 9.0c compatible
INPUT: Mouse and keyboard, Xbox360 controller also supported
The recommended specs aren't finalized yet, but Remedy is advising a "modern" quad-core CPU and a GPU along the lines of ye olde 4830 for "solid" performance (so yes, it's CPU dependent); if you want to go absolutely bleeding edge with it, a "top of the line" CPU and GPU will get you there. 3D Vision is supported if you're in that camp; HD3D support may arrive at some point.
Other tidbits: DLC is included, keys will be configurable, Games for Windows LIVE won't be used, there won't be a demo, there will be graphics options (including FXAA, shadow quality, draw distance, and more), and you'll be able to turn off the HUD for screenshot and machinima purposes. Sounds great to us.
