While the PS Vita enjoyed launch week hardware sales which Sony Computer Entertainment deemed were "in accordance with expectations", sales for the new handheld have since decreased after one month on the Japanese market. According to Media-Create, Vita sales for the week ending January 15th hit 18,361 units, down from the 42,915 units sold just the week before.
Outside of a slight sales boost during its fourth week, the Vita's sales have been trending downward since the handheld first launched back on December 17th. In fact, Sony's PSP has been outselling the Vita since the second week, and we haven't even thrown in Nintendo's 3DS yet.
Vita software have also failed garner signifigant sales compared to PSP titles, by Media-Create's reckoning. Indeed, Vita titles have not managed to break into Media-Create's weekly software top ten chart at any point since the handheld's launch, though it's well worth noting that Media-Create doesn't track digital download sales for any current platform.
