Firaxis' X-COM remake/reimagining thing XCOM: Enemy Unknown sees its first screenshots and details today which we expect will evoke mixed feelings from longtime fans.
Disappointingly, the images are from the console version of the game, and while we're not sure how "X-COM-y" they are, we're intrigued to see more.
Details: you've got your research, international negotiations, leveling up, recruiting, permanent death, the emphasis on fog of war and line of sight, and all manner of combat, including jets vs. UFOs. Micromanagement is significantly reduced, however, apparently to "[get] rid of tedium and uninteresting mechanics" (Game Informer's words) -- colour us suspicious of the game's multiplatform status regardless.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown launches this autumn.
