Alan Wake's American Nightmare story and 'Fight till Dawn' mode detailed
Plus new screenshots and extended debut trailer
Itching to hear more about the new Alan Wake? Then Merry Early Christmas. Remedy's upcoming XBLA exclusive Alan Wake's American Nightmare just got a little more interesting today with several reveals, including the whole premise of the game and the previously unnanounced "Fight till Dawn" mode.
The story mode of American Nightmare is apparently a part of the Night Springs TV fiction, as hinted by the old school cinema feel of the VGA trailer. Alan is trapped in this bizarre reality, where he must fight great evils and stop the sadistic Mr. Scratch.
So who is this mysterious Mr. Scratch we keep hearing about? Turns out, he's Alan's doppelganger, who also happens to be a really good serial killer. The fake Alan has his sights set on the real Alan's wife, too, so that's no good. Like the previouis Alan Wake game, players will be wielding light as their primary weapon; the darkness is not your friend.
In addition to the campaign, American Nightmare also includes "Fight till Dawn," a survival mode of sorts. Players must face down waves of enemies and survive the night, armed with a variety of weapons like the flare gun, nail guns, and Uzi. Unlockable weapons and safe havens located one very stage do offer some extra help, making the wait for dawn somewhat more bearable.
The extended announcement trailer below offers a brief look at this new mode, in addition to the rest of the game. Screenshots can be found after the break.
