Call of Duty is arguably the most lucrative game franchise on the planet, and just 16 days after its release, Modern Warfare 3 has brought in $1 billion in sales. Yeah, that's a lot, and the community itself stands 30 million strong.
Activision was quick to point out that while the movie industry continues to struggle through these tough times, video games are on the rise. Modern Warfare 3's record-breaking figures have now surpassed James Cameron's Avatar by one day; the movie reached its $1 billion milestone 17 days post-release.
Since November 8, over six million players have registered with Call of Duty ELITE, with more than one million premium subscriptions sold. That said, Acti didn't specify whether they're counting subscriptions included in Hardened Edition or acquired by other means.
