We can guess by the prototype trailer that Rainbow 6 Patriots is going to pack in one helluva story. So what's the deal? Terrorists, obviously, but these terrorists are totally homegrown. The "True Patriots" group is a highly organized and well-trailed collective founded in the States, taking advantage of the growing discontent among the masses. As citizens become more frustrated over corrupt politicians and corporate interest running the country, the True Patriots step in and capitalize, bolstering their ranks.
Players take on the role of a Rainbow Six member tasked with stopping this terrorist organization, and Ubi is promising some "critical scenarios" that will require "tough ethnical decisions." The aforementioned video is probably a good example, then.
In terms of gameplay, the combat system sees several overhauls, namely in the cover and weapons systems. We're sure Rainbow 6 fans will find the bulk of it fairly familiar, but you'll have plenty of new mechanics and techniques to play around with in Patriots, like the "Wall & Ceiling Breach," "Fast Rope Rappel," inverted "Aussie Style Rappel," and Infiltrate & Subdue." Should work pretty well with the new thermal Scan mode.
Patriots also offers more precise squad management "at the press of a button." We can't say for sure how simple it really is at this point, but it sounds like players will have better squad management tools, from giving a broad command or taking full control.
Be sure to check out the new artwork too. No screenshots or other solid evidence of gameplay, so these pretty pictures will have to do for now.
