Now I'm glad I never saved my credit card details to "make check out easier".
They still have to save your credit card information to their databases. They can't very well get paid if they have no record of the transaction. Saving the credit card information keeps it recorded locally, on your computer, and it does indeed make it easier if you plan on buying a few things.
That's not necessarily true. For instance, if you sign into Neoseeker with Facebook, Neoseeker never knows your password. Only Facebook does. The same can be true with Steam. Steam never knows your password (or credit card number, etc.), The account and transaction information can be sent to the bank, processed, money sent to Valve, without Valve ever knowing what your information is. All Facebook or the bank does is verify that the information is correct. It never gives any third-party the individual's information. Like, for instance, PayPal, or Ebay.

But remember, even banks can be hacked.

nnnddd101010, I know and that's why it isn't such a big deal. The entire service wasn't affected and shut down as a result of the intrusion, unlike with the PSN hack.

Well Nagare MrGrimm it's because it originated from the forums, so that's all they shut down.

I think that if it did go down though, they might be nice enough to let us play online anyway. Most game servers on Valve games are dedicated, so probably wouldn't need Steam to be online, right?
Steam is an integral component to many games, particularly Valve ones. But offline mode would be a possibility.

Well, luckily there didn't have to be any downtime or anything. Tons of games on Steam, just like there are on PSN. It'd suck if we had to wait for it to be fixed or something.

Just an obvious thing that we should ALL do regardless, is change our steam account password(s).

"PS. Because of this I will be delaying Episode 3 by another year."
How much is a year in valve-time?

DeathMonkey: I wouldn't say that...they still have your usernames, email address, billing address. And while they are encrypted, they have your passwords and credit cards too.
