The men and ladies at Valve are hard at work on the next major Portal 2 update, but they're giving folks a sneak peek at their work and offer up more insight behind the upcoming puzzle creator.
Many of the improvements in the new in-game puzzle editor are based on user feedback for the previously released Authoring Tools. For the most part, users enjoyed the feature but had many complaints over its learning curve and how difficult it was to share puzzles with others. The new editor will address these problems.
According to Valve, the "simplified" puzzle creator will be much more straightforward, making it easier to design levels. Sharing should also be less of an issue, as completed puzzles can be immediately uploaded to Steam Cloud for that purpose. Valve is also working on a community site to host all these player-created levels, while making it easier for players to search the collection of user creations and download them into their own games for use "with a single click." Of course, you'll be able to rate these puzzles too.
With this little update on the Portal 2 blog comes two new screenshots of the in-game editor, so be sure to check those out too (above and below).
