Square Enix has outlined its plans for a "Version 2.0" reboot of Final Fantasy XIV Online set to take place at the end of 2012. Development leading up to the reboot consists of a complete overhaul that includes redesigning maps, rebuilding the engine, and introducing a new user interface compatible with game pad users.
This reboot period also involves a closed beta test of Final Fantasy XIV PS3 that will be held around October or November 2012. Retail versions of FFXIV PS3 are expected to ship around January 2013 or later.
PC users will have to sign up for paid subscriptions this coming November or December in order to continue playing. Square Enix will offer a free play period during the reboot to make sure everything is working correctly.
