Battlefield 3 will have full in-game squad management

Update: squad leaders can kick players from their squad, and make it private. On consoles, VoIP can be set for team or squad, and friends can be invited to your squad; mute options will be available through the scoreboard.

On console you will also be able to choose if you want the active VoIP channel to be team or squad and invite friends to your squad. You will also be able to mute any player on your team through the scoreboard.

Seems DICE's community manager Daniel Matros aka zh1nt0 has misspoken, leading the community to believe there would be no in-game squad management in Battlefield 3, or at least none with substance. On October 1, Matros noted on Twitter, "Voice chat and squadding will be on the battlelog side of things", which prompted fans to go into an uproar, some even saying they'd cancel pre-orders (somewhat understandably).

It's a relief to know then DICE's Barrie Tingle aka Bazajaytee has clarified there will in fact be more squad management, stating, "Yes you can browse and join squads through the squad screen and make private squads. The full form will be available later."

Regarding Matros' statement, Tingle says it was left open to assumption, sure, but that didn't mean there'd be no in-game system either.

"[It] says squads and VoIP will be managed in Battlelog, the same way you can invite a party of friends from Xbox Dashboard into a game as a squad. Doesn't mean you can not manage the squad in game once you are there.

Yes he did leave it open for discussion and assumption but that is due to the fact he wants the designers to be the ones with the final outline on how squads will work."

There's no word as far as we've heard on whether or not there will be kick options and such, but a detailed report from said designers on the squad system is expected this week, so perhaps we'll have something for you then.
