Ok, I admit it, at first when I read "First place gets $400K" I was like WTF! But then I realized how little that amount must be for Activision. It's crazy how much money they've got, and they are very willing to use some of that to get this "network" going. I shall participate in none of all this and last time I played Black Ops(and any of the upcoming COD games) was something like june 9th.

They have lots of money yes and the prize isn't much to them but this whole event is costing them lots. They earn nothing from this event they don't even get a cut of the ticket sales as they have already said 100% of the proceeds are going to charity. This is E3 scale event that is probably going to cost them a good $30-50 million and it's all for no profit at all.

Sure, they might not profit directly from this event but that's obviously not what it's about. It's about earning money through getting their network going, and in the end making people buy their game. So saying "it's all for no profit at all." is a lie. They are probably going to make a lot of money from doing this, otherwise they wouldn't do it. The money is just coming later.

They would make money though with or without this event. Black Ops alone earned Activision $1 billion without Call of Duty XP.. The actual event isn't really there to advertise anything as those going to it are already planning to buy the game, I mean you have to be pretty serious about Call of Duty to spend $150 on a ticket to an event about the game. So I don't think this event will make them money as they were already set to make that money anyway..

So what is the reason a company like Activison holds an event like this? Just to have fun? I'd like your opinion. I believe it's to create awareness of the upcoming game and awareness means that more people will know about MW3, and this creates a lot of possible buyers --> MONEY. It's all about money!
