When it comes to DotA 2, Valve isn't satisfied with conventional means of advertising. Instead, this reboot of the custom Warcraft III MOBA will be making its debut with quite a bang at this year's gamescom in Cologne, Germany.
On August 17 through August 21, Valve will be giving the public a first look at DotA 2 with "The International," a group stage, double elimination tournament. Up to 16 teams from around the world will be chosen and given the privilege of participating.
Oh, and the winning team walks away with $1 milion. Just stop reading for a second and let that sink in.
"The International is the first public DotA 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing DotA around the world their first look at the new game," says Gabe Newell. "I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary."
Valve will provide the cash prize themselves, while Nvidia is taking care of all hardware needs at the event. The tournament will also be broadcasted live in Chinese, German, Russian, and English.
