I think both folks at DICE and IW have stated in the past they play each other's games. I can dig it. They are both very different franchises, honestly.

But I guess all the crazy fandom works in their favor, in the end.

At the end of the day fans will still claim one is better, people will still say CoD is overrated, and Fox will still demonize both games while Activision and EA take their big sacks of cash to the bank laughing.

As long as we don't get a repeat of MW2 from Activision and both games are up to quality everythings fine. Still it really looks like EA/Dice have a chance to surpass CoD in sales and that is a big feat in itself.

I think the competition is nice to be honest. It advertises both of the games... EA and Activision are probably loving all of this.

"they're both going to be excellent experiences."

This sounds mediocre. I'm only buying BF3 because it seems to me, that EA/DICE cares more for the PC community. I think the quality of the latest COD games has been bad and boring. I want some refreshing new gameplay. And I believe BF3 is a step in that direction, for shooters.

I can hear that, its like being a master chef at Italian food, when u make it all the time you may get a numb taste for it and spread to Mexican or some other inferior flavor cause MW3 is clearly an inferior flavor. I will play MW3 of course, i enjoy the epic story, save Black Ops, But online is boring.

They're both warmongering FPS games... there's not that much variety in the genre. Why not a first person game that's not filled with blood, military overtones, and cursing?

I'd like to see a first person game that's focused on exploring a large world with actual puzzles, a real storyline, and gameplay with more than one dimension. It could even have guns in it. Just something creative for a change. War-based shooters with blood and profanity are not creative. It's derivative, childish crap that plays on the so-called sense of "patriotism" that America is prone to. They've oversaturated the market, worse than any shovelware ever has.
Not all FPS games are 'realistic shooters'. It has pretty good variety.

EDIT: Pure FPS can be good too, but the only pure FPS series to really hold my attention is Descent.
Well you really cant enjoy the type of game your reaching for in a FPS, maybe a 3rd person like Drakes, or tomb raider can have that effect. Theres still the violence and blood, lets be honest it is a 'Shooter' which implies that you are shooting someone

I get the impression you've never played Battlefield. There is plenty of variety in the genre: Arma, Bulletstorm, Crysis, BioShock, Half Life, STALKER, Borderlands, Serious Sam, and Shattered Horizon, to name just several.

Its true ya have to feed the masses if you want to feed your own. While there are a fair amount of players that prefer an FPS but can do without the gratuitous violence, there just isnt a market for it. Thats the way economy rolls, thats where the small independent game publishers make there money and collect there cult following, but the sick cycle that prevails is that they no longer are that independent Publisher, get big and produce what everyone else does.
If you wanna keep your head above water these are the steps

Mystic Aurora It's not canceled. And it wasn't intended for FPS gamers, so that's beside the point. Ultimately I think it was just too different for its own good...a great game that was misunderstood and not appreciated like it should've been.
