I'm thinking this is going to be what Skyrim will be like.

It seems there might be two releases or something? It first shows "Andoran" and then "Andoran: Prologue".

I'd guess an initial, smaller release, then a full-fledged one.

There are so many good reasons to build one now it's absurd. You can find lots of help in our forums. I also strongly recommend this guide.

Wow, that looked pretty amazing. I can't believe someone would spend 4 years doing this though... I mean, they've created something amazing by the looks of it, but it's a bit saddening that something with this much effort put into it won't see much of an audience, you know?

I've been waiting for that HL1 remake "Black Mesa" for about 4 years and I've started to feel that way about it. It's like they've taken so long to make it that the excitement about it has dropped severely, the graphics supported by the Source engine won't be nearly as impressive anymore when it releases, and it may not have garnered much of an audience to begin with either. And of course, this is all done for no profit. It would be illegal even if they wanted to put a price tag on it.

With projects like this I think it's more about personal satisfaction and gaining experience (modding is about the best thing you can put on a resume when applying for a job in the industry) -- any recognition is a bonus.

Black Mesa is a special case as it's a remake of a very famous title. I'm also bummed about that one...it's apparently still going, though you could've fooled me. Regarding profit, smart companies, when appropriate, will commission or just hire the mod team for their work.
