It's free if you bought it new...otherwise it's another $15. :/
The DLC market is quickly becoming really annoying.

Does the DLC usually cost 10$ if it isn't free?

with platform life spans increasing it's not surprising developers want their games to be extended too. I can actually see B3 going a long way in its life span. I hope this plan goes through.

DC Sniper It's an expansion/remake of a good chunk of an entire game...if that isn't worth paying for, what is?

Gangsta62 I've heard nothing on price.

It's simply the trend of not getting a full game with your original purchase that is annoying. I pay full price for games to get the full game. Not to then be told 3 months later that I need to fork out another 20 bucks to play on the latest maps that everyone else will be playing on.

This article makes good points on the issue.

Euphoric I recognize that, but it's already going to be a very full game, and plenty of people will be playing on all maps. I don't see this as content removed, but added. They created a separate team within DICE to work on it, as they did for Vietnam (also well worth the money). Note there's no date for it as of yet, but I believe it's coming a month or a few after release...it's really no different than Vietnam, which nobody complained about.

Vietnam is a proper expansion though. Different situation as you are getting a significant amount of fresh material at a time where the game could have been getting stale. It's map packs and extra kits and crap that I don't agree with. Selling things that were preorder bonuses to people who don't preorder. That type of thing.

Map packs using maps from the campaign are not what I have in mind for maps...
The Vietnam pack, however, is a different story.

I'm really getting sick of these DLC. I mean come on you've screwed the PC gaming community over with cut and paste games ported over from console. I remember back in the day when a expansion pack was a real expansion. Now it's just a map here or a map there. Hell we made are own freaking maps. There so freaking greedy.

Bean007 "EA made it known at an investor call this morning it's planning on publishing three times the amount of DLC for Battlefield 3 than it did for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The latter title peaked at seven DLC packs, five of which were free."

Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand expansion confirmed

"Karkand brings a lot of content from series favourite Battlefield 2 in to Battlefield 3: four maps (including Strike at Karkand, presumably), weapons and vehicles, plus achievements, trophies, and other goodies to be detailed later. The maps will of course be enhanced with all the new Frostbite 2 engine has to offer, including destruction."

For Bad Company 2 there's $20 of short-cut kits for each class and $8 for one unique weapon for each class in Vietnam. Onslaught mode is only $5 tough, and Vietnam is $7.50, which was lower than I expected. That's $40 of DLC, most of which is useless trite.

I hope that you can't use the map pack weapons on the standard maps...
