Update: New screenshots have been officially released, though "new" is relative. The hi-res images are actually screenshots taken from the trailer (below), plus a few extra showing the two stages features in the video. Enjoy the shiny pictures.
Just before E3 (Monday!), Namco has released a new and rather interesting trailer for Soul Calibur V. While it's not quite a teaser, given that we actually see some gameplay, the video does have one major tease at the end.
The stars of this trailer are Sophitia's children, Pyrrah and Patroklos, who are shown using shortswords and shields. Given that both Sophitia and Cassandra both already use the same weapon sets, the two kiddies' combat styles might seem redundant, except for two points; first, Soul Calibur V director Daishi Odashima had previously stated some returning characters will have different weapons than before, and secondly, the new trailer hints at Sophitia's absence from the fifth SC.
Granted, it's probably too early to know for sure what will become of the Soul staple, who was around long before Cassandra showed up as her annoying counterpart, but Patroklos is heard saying, "Goodbye, mother." Either he's just bidding her farewell when he leaves home to go kill random fighters across the world or... something bad happens. Mitsurugi and Siegfried make brief cameos -- shown getting their asses kicked by the two blonde kidlings.
Soul Calibur V will be out for PS3 and Xbox 360 next year.
