MMOs are rarely ever truly free, a fact that we've all come to accept. What's nice, however, is when a game doesn't charge fees for every little service it provides. Trion, for instance, will soon be offering free character transfers for the Rift community, and it's not just a one-time thing.
With the upcoming 1.3 update, players will be able to server hop within their region once a week, and that move includes characters, all items, achievements, and titles. Guild leaders will also be able to move their guild's level and experience.
“MMOs are all about playing with your friends no matter which server they’re on, and that’s why we’re offering this as a free service to our subscribers,” says Rift executive producer Scott Hartsman.
“Rift is both a game and a service, and adding free server transfers is just one more way we can make this the best possible MMO experience available.”
Currently there is no limit to how many times you may transfer your characters or guild. Yet keep in mind MMOs are constantly changing, and the free weekly transfer may not stick around if players begin abusing the feature. As of now, though, Trion expects it "will remain a free service for the foreseeable future, and could become a permanent addition to the Rift experience."
