It was a good day for Tales fans outside of Japan (for once) when Namco Bandai Games yesterday officially announced the English localization of Tales of Graces f for PS3. The Tales of the Abyss 3DS port was also highlighted at the press conference, but magazine Nintendo Power already confirmed its international release a few weeks ago in its latest print issue.
That's a whole lot of Tales lovin', but North America and Europe won't be getting them all at once. Namco Bandai confirms that Abyss 3DS will hit our shores first sometime this year, followed by the North American release of Graces f next year. That's a long wait for Graces f, considering that Namco Bandai was teasing its plans to localize the PS3 game (which itself was a port of the 2009 Wii title) first. Graces f would also be the first actual new Tales game localized in English since 2008's Vesperia and Symphonia spinoff Dawn of the New World.
Tales of the Abyss was already localized in English waaay back in 2006 as one of the last few North American PS2 titles. The brand new 3DS port features stereoscopic 3D visuals, but the game as a whole is pretty faithful to the original PS2 release. That's probably why Bandai Namco feels it can (re)release Abyss first.
