Rumors of an Alan Wake sequel began circulating not long ago by way of LinkedIn, and Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that "yes, more [Alan] Wake is coming!"
However, Remedy's head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen noted that "more Wake" does not mean Alan Wake 2 or downloadable content, and he isn't saying much until the studio is ready to make an official announcement.
"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming!" Hakkinen said. "But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake instalment will not be Alan Wake 2. And neither will it be DLC.
"The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually show you."
Hakkinen did say that a part of the Remedy team has been working on this new title for "the last months," and the game is tailored to appease Wake fans while providing a point of entry for newbies.
"It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this instalment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board," he explained.
"We can't wait to show you more, bear with us. Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess."
So will we be hearing about the game at E3 2011 next month? He didn't actually say, but we're thinking "yes," especially if the studio is aiming for a late 2011 release.
Of course, the leak did ruin whatever surprise Remedy had planned, and Hakkinen expressed some disappointment over the issue, "This has come in a little unexpected as we weren't expecting to be talking about this just yet. On the flip side, it's great to see that there is interest out there - it really would seem Alan Wake is very close to the hearts of the fans out there, and to ours too.
"It is of course a shame that this news leaked before our official announcements went out which will include the visuals and information to support it."
