While THQ is busy scouting for talent (so to speak) here in Canada, the publisher confirms that unfortunately it will be axing a few positions at two of its major studios down in the States. Speaking to Gamasutra, THQ explains it has laid off at least 30 employees across in-house studios Volition and Kaos Studios.
You'll recall Volition as the force behind the Red Faction and Saints Row franchises, and on Tuesday the studio lost 16 of its number ranging from new recruits to experienced employees According to THQ, the layoffs were a result of workforce adjustment, an unfortunate reality in game development. Volition will remain at work on its current projects, including the inSANE trilogy of titles produced in collaboration with Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Blade II, Pan's Labyrinth).
Kaos Studios, the team behind recently released Homefront, will also be hit with layoffs. While Homefront eventually proved to a million seller globally in just one week after launch earlier this month, that didn't save Kaos from facing the same cuts. THQ confirms the studio had to let 17 employees go this week, though it pledges that the studio has the manpower necessary to continue supporting Homefront with "an ongoing, robust DLC and content planKaos will also be expected to continue working on new titles for THQ in the near future.
