Who knew the ESRB had an issue with hanged bodies? Consider us enlightened. The North American ratings board has censored the original Dead Island boxart, which featured a corpse/zombie hanging from a palm tree.
The revised (and approved) box now features what is clearly a zombie, standing beneath the same tree. Dead Island publisher Deep Silver confirmed that the logo will remain unchanged in the game, meaning you'll still see the hanged figure on the menu and such. For those of you living across the Atlantic, your boxed copies will boast an uncensored logo.
Dead Island certainly won't be the first zombie action shooter on the market when it releases later this year, but the game has captured the interest of many since its major reveal in February, thanks to an emotionally charged CG announcement trailer.
By taking Dead Island in a more realistic direction, developer Techland hopes to accomplish what few other zombie titles have. This one might just get under your skin, in more ways than one. But hey, it's okay to cry a little.
