Guilty Gear fans "too old for playing games," says Daisuke
BlazBlue isn't exactly the same as Guilty Gear, though the two certainly share enough similarities to be considered close cousins. That said, Guilty Gear fans are just so for a reason, and a similar game isn't exactly going to change that.
If you're one such fan still eagerly awaiting the next GG, prepare to wait indefinitely. During a recent BlazBlue-centric interview, Daisuke Ishiwatari touched on the subject of Guilty Gear and explained just why Arc wasn't making any more fighters under the name.
When asked what happened to Guilty Gear, Ishiwatari stated the series became "too hardcore" for some folks, and BlazBlue was a way of starting over in that respect.
"Guilty Gear got too hardcore for some people, so we wanted to reset the level of entrance," he explained. "BlazBlue was the answer to it. Also, the generation of Guilty Gear players has become a certain age – maybe a little bit too old for playing games. So making that reset brings in a new generation of fighting game players. Then they will be with us for the next few years."
You read that correctly -- Daisuke Ishiwatari thinks Guilty Gear fans are apparently too old to be gaming. That does hurt a little. Maybe BlazBlue is just too hip for some of us old people.
Of course, the spiritual successor to Guilty Gear is still going strong. BlazBlue designer Toshimichi Mori is confident that the upcoming 3DS version will give Street Fighter IV 3DS Edition a run for its money, even criticizing the latter for its "easy special attack button on the bottom screen."
"BlazBlue doesn't have that because we wanted to make it a pure fighting game and not too easy," he stated.
A new BlazBlue for Xbox 360 and PS3 is also in development, though Mori isn't revealing much at this point.
"We'd get booed if it doesn't release," he replied, when asked about another BlazBlue on consoles. "That means yes. We're not saying when, but it will be coming out."

...It came out in 1998. I was 8 years old at the time, putting me (and most other gamers I know) in the "generation of Guilty Gear players."
I certainly remember playing it with friends. Ouch. Better pack up our consoles guys, looks like we're too old for games. =P
Still waiting on a price reduction on the PC BlazBlue game (not to mention it coming to steam as well)...
Unless Mr./Mrs. Sung can provide adequate proof of what they supposedly reported on being true, I'm calling bullshit.
Also agreeing w/ Sir Loin here, as this just seems like an attempt to gauge fan interest.
I'm not quite sure what age that is though. For a lot of people, it's 18. My friends, who were huge video game fans, suddenly went off to college and are now "too busy" to play games.
Damn, I'm going to miss Ky Kiske. I hope the fans unite and show this team just how much they want a new Guilty Gear.
In the meantime, I will say that I enjoy the BlazBlue series. Story's engaging, and that's saying something for a fighting game.
CABINET SMASHER, it's absolutely plausible. While Ishiwatari may be saying today that there won't be any more Guilty Gear (though the way the question and answer were phrased, sounds like it was something he announced some time ago), Arc may change their minds given enough fan demand.
Similarly, NAMCO once said Soul Calibur IV would be the final SE/SC installment. Now, Soul Calibur V is in development.
And I hope this is just Daisuke trolling to make fans demand a new Guilty Gear, because it better not be done. We need a new good hardcore fighter. I am sick of all the slowing down going on in fighting games in recent years. I want my fast paced, heavy metal laced, hardcore Guilty Gear back!
But yeah, I'm sure with enough fan interest they'll bring back Guilty Gear, least I hope so.
That said, it seems kinda silly to say that those of us who are, at most, in our late twenties, are too old for an ever advancing area of hobby and tech is just silly.
