American McGee's Alice masterfully juxtaposed beauty with the disturbing, offering a more macabre take on Lewis Carroll's famous tale. Many were happy to learn of the creepy young girl's return with Alice: Madness Returns, and today's trailer offers a heavy dose of in-game footage.
In Madness Returns, Alice has been released from the asylum, but changes in her life sends her reeling back into the depths of insanity. She returns to Wonderland to find her madness has warped the landscape once again, and she sets out to save it while seeking the truth of her parents' death. A conversation between Alice and her psychiatrist in the background teases the story a bit.
The new environments are absolutely stunning to look at, both in design and execution. You'll also recognize the Alice in Wonderland staples, reworked to better fit the game's ultra artistic visual style. Bottom line: your eyes will be very pleased.
For anyone hoping to see actual gameplay, there isn't any here beyond a few brief combat sequence. Even then, the trailer mostly shows us how pretty everything looks -- not that we're complaining.
Alice: Madness Returns will be released to Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 on June 14.
