Might as well make one now to save a bit of hassle
If you want to hop into Portal 2's co-op mode on the PS3, you're going to need a Steam account to do so. Valve writer Chet Faliszek says Portal 2 PS3 was designed in a way that it requires a connection to Steam's servers along with signing in to the PlayStation Network.
We think Valve just wants to implement all the cross-platform features without the hassle of isolating players to just one network. A Steam account is not required to play the single-player mode, however.
