Silent Hill: Downpour coming this fall, new locations look terrifying
Screenshots and artwork reveal more new places
It's official, we can all revisit Silent Hill later this year, in the fall. Konami has confirmed Silent Hill: Downpour for an autumn release, so you can get your horror fix before 2012 hits.
To go with that announcement is news of Akira Yamaoka's replacement composer. While his role in Homecoming was greatly diminished, Yamaoka was still responsible for the game's music, and since he's no longer a part of Konami, the publisher looked to Daniel Licht for their musical needs. You may be familiar with the name -- he worked on the Dexter soundtrack.
Okay, but you're more interested in all the pretty pictures, right? The latest batch of screenshots actually offers a detailed look at the new locations in Silent Hill: Downpour, most notably the kitschy diner (always a horror staple) and the Devil's Pit. If that name doesn't turn you off, the images of jagged rocks and that poorly maintained ropeway train leading into an abandoned mine shaft might do the trick. But we know Murphy's going there any-dang-way, because this is Silent Hill and he's our new sucker.
In between we have images of a hotel bed with a bloody pulp laying on it, dimly lit city streets, and a few non-monstrous faces. Is it just me or does Downpour look a tad like Alan Wake?
Vatra Games has already explained their focus on exploration, and these wide-ranging locales reaffirms that statement. We're still not sure how the new game will compare to its long line of predecessors, but if these images are any indication, Downpour should be piss-your-pants scary at the very least. Last we heard, the camera is also being reworked for Downpour, combining elements from the older Team Silent titles with the more recent Homecoming.
