Arx Fatalis 1.21 patch, source code released

Arx Fatalis is eight years old, but that isn't stopping Arkane Studios from patching it. Today they release the 1.21 patch for it alongside source code, so fans can get to modding.

The patch updates the game for Windows Vista and 7 stability, fixes HUD scaling, and fixes performance issues for NVIDIA users, among other items. It's not clear if the major issue is affected -- last we played sometimes the game would lock up for about five minutes on a black screen when loading an area.

Update: the loading issue is reportedly solved, and also forced AA will now work.

Arkane says this will be the last official update, but the release of the source code should provoke further fixes, in addition to mods. In the meantime, this old Enchant and Balance mod is available.
