Peer-to-peer monitoring site Torrentfreak compiled its latest numbers for the top five pirated video games per platform and it's not looking pretty. Compared to what was seen in 2009, 2010 has seen a significant rise in piracy.
Call of Duty: Black Ops was the most pirated PC game this year, garnering just over 4.25 million downloads since its release in November (only a couple of weeks!). Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the runner-up at nearly four million downloads while Mafia 2, Mass Effect 2, and StarCraft II each managed somewhere over three million downloads.
Surprisingly, Dante's Inferno takes the top spot as the most pirated 360 game with 1.28 million downloads. Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption follow behind with just over a million downloads each while Halo Reach and Black Ops round up the top five.
Four titles published by Nintendo were among the top five games pirated for the Wii: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Wii Party, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Kirby's Epic Yarn. Altogether, they account for more than 5.34 million downloads. Ubisoft's Red Steel comes in as the fifth most pirated Wii game with nearly 900,000 downloads.
