Update: Bethesda has confirmed Skyrim will run on a new engine, saying "it's brand new... and it's spectacular!"
Of the many premieres seen tonight on the VGAs (Mass Effect 3 is real!), Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is probably one of the more exciting ones. The new Elder Scrolls was announced early in the evening, with a procession of monks.
A teaser showed obvious evilness descending on humanity, and a voice that was all srs bzn warned us of horrible things to come. Of course, with the impending doom of mankind, the Dragonborn also returns. The end of the brief trailer is, of course, a date. Expect Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in late 2011, specifically on November 11.
Check out the teaser below, and a transcript for those who can't quite figure out what that dude is yammering about.
You should have acted.
They're already here.
The Elder Scrolls told of their return.
Their defeat was merely a delay
'Til the time after Oblivion opened,
When the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood.
But no one wanted to believe,
Believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns,
It dawns in fire.
But there's one they fear;
In their tongue, he's Dovahkiin -- Dragonborn!
