First next-gen series entry did pretty darn well for itself on PS3 in Japan
Every year on the anniversary of the original PlayStation console Japanese launch date (December 3rd 1994), Sony Computer Entertainment Japan honors top-selling PlayStation platform software at its PlayStation Awards company event.
SCEJ has announced the winners of this year's PlayStation Awards, and Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII takes the Platinum honor as 2010's bestselling game on PlayStation hardware. The Platinum award is reserved for titles which sell over 1,000,000 units in Japan alone over the course of the year. There's a Gold award too, meant to honor titles which reach half a million unit in sales; this category proved to be much more crowded, and was dominated by PlayStation Portable titles.

Monster Hunter also rocks!!!!!!!!!!....
Yeah, too bad this didn't take place after MHP3rd. That game outsold Pokemon Black and White and saw lines of 3000 people. No surprise, it's an amazing game.
