You're not scoring any prizes if you guessed that Call of Duty: Black Ops was the the top-selling game in the UK for last week, but what you may not know is that the Treyarch-developed shooter managed to score the biggest entertainment software launch yet in the PAL market. According to Gfk Chart-Track, (who still sees fit to share a software ranking list with the world by the way) Black Ops sold a combined 2 million units across all platforms in just five days, netting an estimated £81.9 million ($131.6 million USD) in the process. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 held the previous record with unit sales of 1.8 million, and revenue of £67.4 million ($108.3 million USD in today's dollars).
What's more, sales for Black Ops during launch week alone easily topped those garnered by the entire UK software market sales for the past two weeks. The Black Ops launch helped made the week ending November 13th the highest grossing yet for the UK software industry. Talk about building up to a climax.
