Beat Hazard Ultra coming 2011, $5 upgrade for previous owners
Music-based shoot-em-up getting a whole lot better
Our review of music shmup Beat Hazard could be described as glowing -- really, we wouldn't protest. Cold Beam Games is going to take it to a whole other level next year though with Beat Hazard Ultra, an updated and enhanced version of the original, set for PC, PSN and iMac. It's curious no XBLA release is mentioned, so we'll check into it for you.
The biggest enhancement is definitely online versus and co-op play, which should be insane amounts of fun (so long as you're playing someone with good taste). Besides that there's more of everything: bosses (Serpent, Mob) enemies (Reaper, Stalker) power ups (Wingmen, Subvert), and game modes (Boss Rush, Invaders).
The game will launch Q2 next year, and for PC gamers, Cold Beam's "Steve" tells us it will be a $5 DLC upgrade -- a very sweet deal. For new purchasers, we're guessing the current $10 you pay for the original game, if not $15.
Update: we're also told Beat Hazard Ultra was rejected from Xbox LIVE, with no feedback from Microsoft. Steve says he could try to get a publisher behind him for it and get it done that way, but his hands are full with the other versions anyway.

Can't wait for this update, easily worth the $5.
I'm not going to add them all, and how many of them have Beat Hazard anyway?
