The mod project Baldur's Gate 2 Redux has been planned since about the release of Dragon Age: Origins, and though many understandably figured it would never see the light of day, a demo of sorts has just been released.
The portion of the game contained here puts in the very first dungeon: Irenicus' Dungeon. You'll be pleased to know there is about two hours of gamplay spread across several levels and quests.
If you're new to either the Baldur's Gate series or this remake, know the game and its prequel are hailed by all sensible RPG fans as some of the greatest of all time. Dragon Age fans would recognize a lot of the design elements, albeit in a less advanced form.
The remake is not intended to be a reconstruction of the original in a new engine, but rather something that is true to it while updating and changing just enough things to make it interesting even if you've played BG2 a thousand times before.
If you are a purist and find the mod dissatisfactory, BG1 is available on GOG.com, with its sequel due any day now.
Word is anyway it's quite a solid work, but let us know what you think -- you can grab the mod at the source.
