Parasite Eve heading to PlayStation Network
I or II, or both
Square designer Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed via the 3rd Birthday Twitter account the company will be releasing previous entries in the esteemed Parasite Eve series on PlayStation Network. It's not actually specified if it will be the first title, second, or both, but Nomura has previously stated both were under consideration.
The first game, if you're not familiar with it, was one of Square's few that was both unique and acclaimed. It cast you as NYPD officer Aya Brea, who gets caught up in a battle with a supernatural force (Eve). The game is based on a Japanese fiction novel of the same name, and uses a lot of science as the foundation of the story, making for a fascinating tale you likely won't find anywhere else in games. As for mechanics, these combine action, RPG, and shooter elements. Of course, the character designs and music are classic Square, though with a modern feel, and arguably represent them at their best.
The sequel improved on many aspects including graphics, but for us, taking away most of the RPG elements really sucked the magic out of it. As such, assuming it's released, this will be a great chance for fans to catch up on the series' heyday, or even discover its greatness for the first time.
An official announcement with details should arrive soon.
