We've known about it for ages, and now the team has finally reached the breaking point -- the Suda 51 (No More Heroes creator), Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil creator), and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill composer, producer) super project is now revealed as Shadows of the Damned. Developed under Grasshopper Manufacture and published by EA, the game is set for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Not that you expected different, but it looks (and sounds) great. The team noted at the Tokyo Game Show reveal they "only had one person in mind for the game's sound."
Funnily enough, it's not a straight horror game as we'd heard, but rather seemingly a direct combination of the three creators' fine talents -- you've got the over the shoulder action and horror elements of Resident Evil 4, the obnoxiousness and action of No More Heroes, and lastly, the superb compositions of Akira Yamaoka. Even besides the game, it's just lovely to see these supremely talented folks back in action and working together.
"We are excited to finally take the cover off our latest project and invite gamers from around the globe to experience this new, warped world we have created," said Goichi Suda, CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture. "By partnering with EA, a publisher that truly shares our commitment to quality and innovation, we have been able to develop Shadows of the Damned according to our ambitious vision while creating an entertainment property we believe will appeal to a global audience."
You'll be taking on the role of Garcia, who seems to hold similarities to a character of another Mikami project -- Dante of Dante May Cry. Garcia is described as a "hard-as-nails, leather-clad, motorcycle-riding professional demon hunter." Naturally, he's on a mission -- in this case it's to save his true love from said demons, which requires a trip to Hell. Aside from big action, you can also expect puzzles in there somewhere.
Shadows of the Damned will launch summer 2011.
