Gents better than ladies at Professor Layton puzzle solving
Now the city of London knows who to put the fate of its future on
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, the latest game in Level 5's series of gentlemanly puzzle-solving adventure games, has launched for the Nintendo DS. In its quest to reaffirm the broad market appeal of DS titles like Layton, Nintendo hosted a Professor Layton puzzle challenge in four U.S. cities leading up to Unwound Future's launch to determine whether the ladies or gentlemen were better at leveraging critical thinking as the key to success. The overall, averaged results apparently put the gents ahead of the ladies. The gents didn't exactly steamroll the competition, certainly not in all of the cities:
- San Francisco – Ladies: 14.3, Gents: 12.06
- Chicago – Ladies: 10.4, Gents: 12.4
- Boston – Ladies: 7.3, Gents: 6.0
- Philadelphia – Ladies: 4.62, Gents: 8.4
- TOTAL – Ladies: 9.1, Gents: 9.7
Nintendo conceded this was a "thoroughly unscientific survey", so we don't expect the likes of Professor Layton himself to consider it conclusive by any stretch of his of scholarly imagination. To settle for anything less than empirical evidence would be uncivilized!
