Red Dead Redemption's fistful of dollars went straight to the Cosa Nostra, as GFK Chart-Track confirms that 2K Games and Take 2's Mafia II is not only the United Kingdom's top selling title for the week ending August 28th, but takes RDR's crown as the biggest game launch yet in the region. Chart-Track notes that launch week sales for the first game (which saw a staggered release across the PC, Xbox and PS2) only ever reached 29 percent of the sales already achieved by Mafia II.
We'd like to think the chance to get a free shave and haircut while you test drive the game helped, but it looks like the hype was much stronger for Mafia II from the start. As you might have guessed, the Xbox 360 version sold best, accounting over half of the title's total launch week sales. The PS3 version comprised an additional 41 percent, while sales for the PC release made up the remaining 7 percent.

Folks on our side of the pond will want to until later next month, when the NPD Group releases its monthly software sales chart for August, to see if Mafia II can muster its faithful over here.
