Zombies are always getting you down in Dead Rising, but fortunately Capcom comes bearing gifts for the sequel. The publisher already knows there is merit in putting effort into glossy special edition releases for their bigger titles, and fortunately Dead Rising 2's console release is getting the red carpet treatment with a special Zombrex Edition.
Dead Rising 2's Zombrex Edition packaging is a handsome steelbook case (which will hopefully hold those game discs nice and tight, unlike the steelbook for one of Halo 3's "special" edition bundles) packed with medical themed goodies from the ficticious Zombrex healthcare unit. The medical science take isn't exactly the most original theme for a game featuring a zombie outbreak, but at least Capcom has taken the time to put a Dead Rising spin on it. In addition to kitsch items like a "Zombrex safety card" and 16-page "Zombrex sales brochure", the Zombrex Edition will also include more useful items like a 25-page notepad, syringe-shaped pen, and 48-page hardcover artbook.
The Zombrex Edition also bundles the game with a 24-minute "Making Of" featurette for fans who want an even better behind-the-scenes look at Dead Rising 2's development. The PS3 version gets to have this mini-documentary on spiffy hi-res Blu-ray, but the Xbox 360 release gets an additional bonus: an 83-minute "Zombrex Dead Rising Sun" live-action motion picture written and directed by Capcom franchise mastermind Keiji Inafune himself.
Unfortunately, the Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition will only be available in North America when it launches alongside the regular retail releases this September 28th. Capcom has priced this baby at $79.99 USD on both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
