Oh, the Dreamcast -- a console ahead of its time, and one doomed to an awful fate. However, the little guy is resilient and even today new games are being made for it by independent developers.
It will live on with its more famous titles soon though, as Sega is bringing Dreamcast classics to Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network. They alluded to this previously, and have kept to their word.
Wisely, they're starting off with Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi, two titles which got the console off its feet and helped make a name for it. Sonic has gotten a bad reputation in recent years, and folks typically lump Adventure into the mix, but personally we love the game despite its flaws -- we'd say it's one of the few 3D titles that (mostly) captured what Sonic is about.
The games are based on the Dreamcast versions, however Sega being awesome, is supporting high resolution visuals and surround sound, and also adding online leaderboards, achievements and trophies.
Both games will be available as of this autumn. After that, you can likely expect classics like Shenmue and its sequel, plus Skies of Arcadia, Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5 and more.
On the possibility of PC releases (as with the Genesis Classics Pack series), a Sega rep told us, "While [we are] excited about future possibilities, right now, these games will appear on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network."
