Visit the Google homepage lately? If you go directly to your personal Google page, kindly redirect yourself to the main search page for a cute li'l surprise. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Namco's PAC-MAN, the game is now playable on Google's frontpage.
Next to the "Google Search" is the "Insert Coin" button, and clicking the latter will turn the themed Google logo into a playable game of PAC-MAN. Hit "Insert Coin" twice and Ms. PAC-MAN will join the fray as a co-op partner. On 2-player, the lady is controlled through WASD, and the mister falls over to the number pad.
Everything about Google's mini game emulates the original, from sounds to bugs. Senior UX designer and developer Marcin Wichary seems incredibly fond of the project:
PAC-MAN seems like a natural fit for the Google homepage. They’re both deceptively straightforward, carefully hiding their complexity under the hood. There’s a light-hearted, human touch to both of them. And we can only hope you find using Google at least a quarter as enjoyable as eating dots and chasing ghosts. You know, without actually needing any quarters.
You'll have today and tomorrow to lose yourself in this awesomely retro game.
