Since 2002, BFG Technologies has been a notable player gamers' world of graphics card hardware. Effective today, they have announced that they are no longer going to be selling video cards.
"After eight years of providing innovative, high-quality graphics cards to the market, we regret to say that this category is no longer profitable for us, although we will continue to evaluate it going forward," the chairman of BFG Technologies was quoted as saying. "We will continue to provide our award-winning power supplies and gaming systems, and are working on a few new products as well. I’d like to stress that we will continue to provide RMA support for our current graphics card warranty holders, as well as for all of our other products such as power supplies, PCs and notebooks."
This situation could be related to rumors we've heard of razor-thin margins for NVIDIA video cards over much of last year. Fermi was delayed a long period of time, and until then, their reportedly was not much stock of other NVIDIA products, which made just staying alive tough for many board partners. Rumors were circulating even as recent as a month ago that BFG was going to switch sides to ATI, like the similar company XFX has done this year, but that potential does not seem to be the case any longer.
BFG was always tied close to the soul of PC gaming, with their name presumably even derived from the "Big F***ing Gun" of perhaps the most landmark fps ever, the PC's Doom. The company will continue on though: they will continue to sell all of their other products besides video cards, such as power supplies and other products that they are hinting of releasing, that will no doubt have a gamer-friendly focus.
Current owners of BFG video cards will also be reassured to know that the company will continue to support its extensive warranties for their products, and that staff will remain employed for any needed tech support.
BFG Technologies has supplied Neoseeker with a number of video cards over the years, so we thank them for that, and wish them all the best with their future endeavors.
