Designer of Splinter Cell and creative director of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry 2 Clint Hocking has left developer and publisher Ubisoft. Hocking tendered his resignation April 26, and indicated his need for a challenge in his career as the reason for the move.
"Over the years, a number of friends have accused me of a certain false modesty in attributing so much of my success to luck," Hocking wrote in his blog. "They’ve encouraged me to take credit for the hard work and the dedication. And over the years I have come to understand that, in fact, my hard work has been a non-insignificant factor in my success and resultant happiness."
To be sure, he states firmly he's immensely proud of the work he and his team have accomplished, and feels no regret about his career. Nevertheless, he's gotten too comfortable, so it's time for a change, and to try a path based more on hard work than luck.
"The way forward lies in my having the courage that I did not know I had a decade ago to bid farewell to those tragically comforting habits. I need to walk on hot coals and sleep on a bed of nails. I need to chew on broken glass. I need to drink paint."
We wish you all the best, Clint.
