One for the lower-end, one for the higher
As we previously mentioned in our news, Intel has been putting together to new models: the Core i5-680, and the Pentium E5500. Both have been released today, with little fanfare from Intel.
First off, the Core i5-680, which is an update to the 670. The clock speeds have been boosted to an impressive 3.6GHz for this chip, making it the fastest 32-nm Clarkdale around. This is a two-core processor with HyperThreading, and 4MB of L3 cache. It is looking like it'll be about $10 more than the i5-670 is now -- so it'll sell for around $300.
The Pentium E5500 replaces the E5400. It gains only a slight core clock boost of 100MHz, clocking the E5500 at 2.8GHz. This is dual-core, 2MB cache, no HyperThreading, 800MHz FSB 45nm CPU. It should overclock fairly well and will sell for around $80.
These chips are now available for order from Intel for retailers -- expect them to arrive in stores shortly.
