No sign of the whip? Then what is that thing he is swinging on? Looks like a chain whip. And most of the old school games the whip was a chain whip, usually after upgrades.

I am pretty sure the cross is the new interpretation of the whip. Considering it can be used as a chain whip which is obvious from the screenshots and trailer.

"No sign of the Belmonts' trademark whip just yet."

Its funny how so many Castlevania fans out there, some of them gaming journalists, have apparently never played any of the classic games from the 80s and early 90s. The "Belmont's trademark whip" WAS a chainwhip with a flail at the end of it, identical to the weapon in this new game, in every classic Castlevania game in the 80s and 90s. It didn't turn into a leather whip with no upgrade to a chain whip until around 2000-2003, when Castlevania 64, Circle of the Moon and Lament of Innocence came out.

It's funny how reading comprehension is just out the window nowadays.

*Ahem* Like so many of you, I had at first assumed the chain you see in the one screenshot to be the "classic whip." But Konami then stated that it was a part of the Combat Cross itself, not an actual, separate weapon. A new, hipper incarnation of the barbed-leather-whatever whip? Maybe, but it's still called the "Combat Cross."

Not calling foul in any way. Whip comment was merely an offhand observation.
