Get out the glasses
Nvidia's 3D Vision kit, which adds 3D effects to games using shutter glasses with 120Hz displays, will now be supported natively in the Unreal Engine 3, says Epic. Before, many games that were powered by the Unreal Engine 3 -- just about the most popular game engine around -- such as Borderlands and Batman: Arkham Asylum, supported 3D Vision, but now, every future game made using the Unreal Engine 3 will automatically support 3D.
“Having the number one 3D engine on the planet embrace 3D Vision is fantastic news for UE3 licensees, UDK users and gamers,” said Tony Tamasi, vice president of content and technology at Nvidia. “It’s now easier than ever to add state-of-the-art stereoscopic 3D effects to your Unreal Engine 3-based creations.”
An updated version of the Unreal Engine 3, and the UDK for it, will soon be available for all game-makers who have licensed it. That means that some of them may add, or improve, 3D Vision support into their games with a patch. Here's hoping for some 3D Vision improvements to Mass Effect 2 -- which should be a pretty good game to play in 3D.
