AMD is launching a small little contest that might be of an interest to those of you who want an excess of processing power. It is described in a blog post called "What Would You Do With 48 Cores?", found over here.
It is pretty straight-forward: submit either an essay (500 words max), a YouTube video (3 mins max), or a blog posting (500 words) on the topic of what good use you would put four Opteron 6174, 12 core CPUs, with a TYAN S8812 four socket motherboard, and a copy of Windows Server 2008.
Says AMD: "Tell us what you can do with 48 cores to make the world a better, more interesting place, delivering the top performance or optimizing power. Of course creativity will be awarded, so don’t be afraid to show the fun side of servers."
If you can show the "fun side of servers" you definitely are a talented person, and should win something. So enter the contest. It closes on March 24th. There is only one of these prize packs up for grabs, but it is worth over $8,000 bucks. So get cracking.
