Aliens vs. Predator multiplayer demo incoming [Update]
Hits PSN, XBL and Steam tomorrow
Update: it's live on Steam.
Update 2: live on XBLM.
Craving a taste of Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator remake? It's all yours as of tomorrow, when a demo hits the PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE and Steam in North America and Europe (no word on a standalone demo for the PC gaming Steam-haters, but we'll keep you updated).
The trial will feature the game's multiplayer mode. Yep, straight off you can play as the Colonial Marine (yawn), the Predator or the Alien (hell yes), fighting against the other two in Deathmatch mode on the Refinery level (pictured in the gallery here).
Multiplayer Map Scenario:
The Alien Queen was drawn to the warmth of the Freya’s Prospect Ore Refinery. It was here that she established her Hive. Hence the Refinery multiplayer map features not only the signature metallic architecture of a Weyland-Yutani colony but also surfaces made entirely of Alien resin – the ominous first sign of Xenomorph infestation. There are numerous vantage points for Predator hunters, dark corners and destructible lights for Alien stalkers and tight corridors for heavily-armed Marines. On this map no species is at an advantage and all will have to fight for survival. Welcome to the Aliens vs Predator multiplayer experience.
Sega Europe's "fat ninja" Martin is cool enough to invite players for matches with him, too, so feel free to add him (XBL: Mad Gerald / PSN: MadGerald).

Even though I knew the demo was coming for 2 weeks. AvPGalaxy wasn't lieing now were they they?
Steam forums show a lot of people are having the problem.
Goddamn it the Disk and spear are hax.
The flamethrower can't actually set anything on fire. WTF? It would have been super useful for lighting up cloaked predators. You can't do that. Nor can you turn aliens into frenzied living torches. It seems to set scenery on fire a little bit, but that's all. I also couldn't work out what the point of its alt fire mod was.
The pulse rifle is ok, I suppose...
The smartgun is what really pissed me off. it sounds wrong. It fires wrong. It just plain IS wrong! It's meant to fire in bursts, and have a rather low pitched sound. This game has a gun that looks roughly like a smartgun but just isn't one, as it fires in full auto and has a weird high pitched sound. It's completely wrecked any sense of authentic Aliens experience that the game could have had.
It's also dissapointing that there's no alien dismemberment in multiplayer. Considering that it was not only possible, but awesome, in single player... I really don't see the reason why it's not in multiplayer.
Hell, Deus Ex 1 has it in singleplayer AND multiplayer!
Also, I've noticed there's a distinct lack of consistency in the various demo movies of the game. In the 2009 predator demo, you could cut limbs off aliens and have them keep crawling towards you.
In the marine demo (in the stripclub), none of the aliens seemed to lose limbs. In fact they basically just fell over and died. LAME.
I can't really work out what the final game is going to include. The multiplayer demo was offputting. And why on earth isn't there a single player playable demo? It was badly needed.
I hope Aliens: Colonial Marines is better than this.
