Claims iPad design is a knock-off
Now here's a bizarre switch: a company in China is accusing someone of copyright infringement.
While Asia is no stranger to tablet netbooks -- even the keyboardless variety -- the Shenzhen Great Loong Brother company seems to think that Apple's new iPad is a direct copy of their own P88. While the iPad is still too new to be shipping across the Pacific, to the iPhone black hole of the world, Shenzhen president Xiaolong Wu is already up in arms.
“We won’t have any choice but to report them," Wu told Spanish national newspaper El Mundo. The concern lies in sales, obviously, as Shenzhen is convinced the iPad will kill theirs. El Mundo calls it "plagiarism," but we think they meant copyright or IP infringement.
Before you can call shenanigans and declare the P88 an iPod/iPhone lookalike, Wu also stated they "have nothing to do with it, as [the iPad and P88] have completely different functions." He claims the two are "completely identical."
Specs for the P88, upon closer inspection, are actually quite tantalizing. It's bigger than the iPad, with its 10.2" screen, and boasts a 250 GB hard drive, an Ethernet port, webcam, Intel 945GSE chipset, and a gig of RAM. Oh, and it also runs Windows. The only problem is that it's reported to have a low battery life of 1.5 hours, without a power cord. The iPad probably won't last the full 10 hours it claims (while in use), but we're pretty sure it doesn't drop that low.
And why is Wu targeting Apple anyway? You'd think he'd be more worried about pirates or Chinese copycats. Those tend to be more blatant.

It'll be fun to watch this whole situation crash and burn as they try to accuse companies of stealing their name even if they had it 10+ years before Apple.
